How Do I Get Moo Duk Kwan Rank® Certification?

belts-single-row-3-1600x244-lo Federation members have access to the following rank certifications from the Moo Duk Kwan®.   Transfers into the Federation who fulfill all requirements specified in the current Federation Member Manual may also have access to Moo Duk Kwan® rank certification but may proceed toward rank certification a bit differently than outlined.

Moo Duk Kwan Rank® Certification Procedures


  1. Gup (Under Black Belt) Rank Examinations

    1. Fulfill requirements specified in the current Federation Member Manual
    2. Submit a completed Application For Gup Promotion to your Instructor
      • DOWNLOAD AND IT IS COMPUTER FILLABLE - Not if opened  in your browser
    3. Be Tested by Personal Instructor
    4. Successfully complete examination by Personal Instructor
    5. Be Recommended by Personal instructor to the Technical Advisory Committee for rank certification
      • Group Test Form for use by School Owners
        • DOWNLOAD AND IT IS COMPUTER FILLABLE - Not if opened  in your browser
    6. Be recommended by the Technical Advisory Committee to the Kwan Jang Nim for rank certification
  2. Dan (Black Belt) Rank Examinations

    1. Fulfill requirements specified in the current Federation Member Manual
    2. Be Recommended To Test by Personal Instructor
    3. Submit a completed application packet to your Region's Regional Examiners by published deadlines
      1. Application For Dan Rank Promotion
      2. Essays specified in Member manual
      3. Volume 1 Study Guide
      4. Consent to Publish
      5. Any paperwork or registrations required by your Regional Officials
      6. Fees
    4. Successfully complete examination by Regional Testing Board
    5. Be recommended by the Regional Testing Board to the Technical Advisory Committee for rank certification
    6. Be recommended by the Technical Advisory Committee to the Kwan Jang Nim for rank certification
  3. Ko Dan Ja (Master) Rank Examinations

    1. Fulfill requirements specified in the current Federation Member Manual
    2. Be eligible to receive a questionnaire from the Technical Advisory Committee
    3. Be recommended by Personal Instructor, Regional Examiners and Technical Advisory Committee to test
    4. Submit a complete application packet and other required items to National Member Headquarters before published deadlines
    5. Successfully complete examination by Technical Advisory Committee at the annual week-long Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa event (or International equivalent)
    6. Be recommended by the Technical Advisory Committee to the Kwan Jang Nim for rank certification
