Foundation Donations in Memory of Cort Stinehour Sa Bom Nim
The United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Do Kwan Foundation 501(c)(3) endorses the following message from Mary Kate Stinehour Sa Bom Nim.
- John A. Ballard, Chairman
Hello,
On behalf of my family and the Ellenville Moo Duk Kwan students, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to the Foundation in memory of my husband and our instructor, Cort Stinehour. The response from our family, friends, and our Moo Duk Kwan brothers and sisters was overwhelming, as they raised over $9,000 for the Foundation.
For those who knew Cort Stinehour Sa Bom Nim, his driving force was building relationships and growing our art from the inside out by supporting the next generation of Moo Duk Kwan practitioners. With this at the forefront of our decision, the Senior students of the Ellenville Moo Duk Kwan want to be sure the money donated will be used to support his legacy for years to come.
Beginning in 2025, the donations made will support the following yearly:
- Three (3) Studio Scholarships ($300 each) for Jo Kyo, Kyo Sa, Bu Sa Bom, or a Sa Bom who will open a new studio.
- 30% off Instructor Kits (Jo Kyo, Kyo Sa, Bu Sa Bom, Sa Bom) for up to $1,600.
- One (1) $500 academic scholarship for an Ellenville High School graduate.
If you or one of your students is interested in applying for one of the supports mentioned above, please contact me at mkstinehour@gmail.com. Those interested will need to submit a brief essay focusing on how the art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan has impacted their life and how they will impact our art's growth with this sponsorship's support. Starting this year, essay submissions will be collected and reviewed beginning February 28th and ending November 30th of each calendar year. Final decisions will be shared with the entrant. Each category will remain open until the designated funds for the year are exhausted.
In July, Region 2 will host a memorial golf outing in conjunction with the 2025 National Festival in King of Prussia, PA. More information about this event will be forthcoming as we draw closer to the event. The proceeds from this event will go to the Foundation in memory of Stinehour Sa Bom Nim. If you would like to donate in his memory, please do so at soobahkdofoundation.org or VENMO: ussbdmdkf
Respectfully yours,
Mary Kate Stinehour
