Greetings Federation members and supporters,

I hope this finds you in good health and spirits.

The following is a summary of recent actions and activities of the Board of Directors.

2019 Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa and Moment with the Masters

The Board authorized the Executive Administrator to execute a contract with the DoubleTree Hotel in Park City, Utah for the 2019 Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa and Moment with the Masters.  The event will take place Friday, November 8^th through Friday, November 15^th and will be hosted by Region 8.

Background Checks and Child Safety Training

The Board adopted a mandatory background check and safety training policy at the November 7^th meeting in response to the newly enacted “"Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017" (signed into law February of 2018).  The Act creates a minimum standard of care for abuse prevention for youth sports organizations, including martial arts schools.

Effective January 1, 2019, in order to comply with federal legislation and to ensure member safety, all instructors and high level practitioners certified by the United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation as instructors or school , and potentially some volunteers, will be required to complete a background check and child safety training on an annual basis.  Background checks and safety training can be acquired through a Background Check and Continuing Education subscription on the Soo Bahk Do Institute.

2019 National Festival

The 2019 National Festival will be hosted by Region 10 in Portland, Oregon on July 25^th-27^th.  Rooms reservations can now be made at Red Lion on the River Jantzen Beach.

Growth Teleconferences

Master George Broyles, Board of Directors Vice-Chairman facilitates studio owner growth teleconferences on the last Sunday of each month.  Each call features a different presenter sharing personal experience and expertise on studio growth and retention and other topics supportive of studio owner and instructor success. Please join us.

Master Broyles has organized the next Growth Teleconference for Sunday, January 6^th at 5pm PST, 8pm EST. and has requested that I cover the Background Check and Child Safety policy and how it affects studio owners and instructors. I look forward to sharing this information with you during that call.

Susan Fittanto, Moo Duk Kwan® Dan Bon 41586 is a life member of the United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation® and an internationally certified Master level practitioner and Master level instructor (Sa Bom) of the Soo Bahk Do® martial art system taught in Moo Duk Kwan® schools worldwide.  She operates a Moo Duk Kwan® Certified school in Colorado and on 08/10/2017 she was  appointed by the Technical Advisory Committee Chairman as a Technical Advisory Committee Assistant. She also serves as the elected Board of Directors representative for Region 8 and in February 2018 she was elected by fellow Board Directors to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors from 02/29/2018 to 02/28/2019.
